NIKANOR RUŽIČIĆ

Bishop, 1898-1911

Bishop Nikanor was born on April 15th 1843 in Svileuva. He finished the Theological School in Belgrade and the Spiritual Academy in Kiev. As a widower, he entered the monastic order in the Bukovo Monastery. He was a teacher, and later rector, of the Belgrade Theological School.

During the Serbian-Turkish war, he was a military priest. Upon retirement in 1889, he studied theology and philosophy. He was appointed the bishop of Niš on April 17th 1898, and he remained in this position until 1911. He died in Belgrade on October 16th 1916.
