IMPERIAL EDICT

According to the Imperial Edict of Vasilius II from 1020, the Niš Episcopacy was placed again under the rule of the Greek Church. At this moment, the borders of the Ohrid Archdiocese include 32 eparchies ranked as dioceses. In the mentioned Edict, the Niš Episcopacy takes the ninth place and covers the largest territory. It is awarded the right to dispose of 40 clergymen and the same number of free peasants-parishioners, like the greatest dioceses. Beside the town itself, the Niš Episcopacy encompassed Mokro, komplos, Toplica and Svrljig.
