According to Jordanes, once well-fortified and now weakened but rebuilt town was captured by the Goths for the first time in 471. The Goths were under the command of Tiudimer, who "attacked Naissus, the first town in Illyricum" (... Tiudimer... Naissum primam urbem invadit Iliyrici...). Niš got relieved only after Tiudimer's son Theodorih started off to attack Italy in 448.
