Apart from decrepit traces of color,
found on a fragment of fresco mortar from the church on the location of Gradište near Miljkovac,
none of the preserved frescoes in Niš and its surroundings may be dated to this period
for sure. The reason for this lies, undoubtedly, in great Avarian destruction and Slavic
conquering. After that, a long-lasting period of calm started, unexplored by historic
sources and scarcely witnessed by archaeological material.
